Hey Fatty!

In a completely unrelated post from my previous post....

I became aware of this through my brother's blog and thought I'd pass it on to all of you as well. Given our cultural obsession with being skinny, beautiful, et al. it is no surprise that the camera industry has come up with a new camera feature that makes your picture subjects slimmer. Think about the implications for that: you take a picture of a friend and he/she looks a little chubbier than you would like. What to do? Oh, just slim them down a little bit that way your pictures don't capture the real person, just the one you want them to be. It's just another example of our cultural obsession with creating fantasy worlds that don't really exist. If we can create a fantasy world then we can create fantasy people.

Am I blowing it out of proportion? Maybe. Honestly you could probably make some really funny pictures with that feature if you wanted to. We just need to be careful when we start turning people (even pictures of people) into something that they are not.
